My Schematic Design Layout of the Lodge and Cabins

This is the layout I am proposing for the lodge and the cabins. The reason why I decided to put the lodge at the west end is because the sun would be setting in on the back side of the lodge where the greatest views of the lake is, also because there is suites on the top floor and there views will be capitalizing on the view of the lake. There will also be a restaurant on the northern side of the lodge which will allow for a great view as well. I secluded the cabins from the lodge so each cabin will have more of a private location for anyone staying in the cabins. Most of the cabins will have a great view of the lake but for the ones that don't get as much of a view, they will be located near the creak to compensate.

If anyone has and suggestions on how to make this better or just any other kind of opinions let me know!

  1. Hey Arvi,

I've just been reading up on some of the other eco-friendly resorts in BC. One of them was able to harness some energy from a near by creek. I'm not sure if that would work for the creek that's located on your site but it's an idea. A couple other things I saw was one resort does what they call a "zero paper vacation" they offer their guests a discount if all their reservation arrangements etc are done electronically. Another resort near Hope has a central washroom facility. I know the resort you are working on would be more upscale so that might not work for you either. Just some things to think about.

  2. Hey Arvi,

Have you thought about what Karri's been teaching us. It would be nice to connect the flow between the lodges better and maybe try and create some type of center there as well. I really like this picture that I came across when I think you could do with it: http://ideadesign.org/?attachment_id=484 (just click on the picture there to go to the next one, that's the one I was looking at. It has a little foot bridge over a creek and what not. If it didn't work let me know and I can just email it to you). And if you need help with actual floor plans for the restaurant or what not, just let me know.

  3. Hey Arvi,

I don't know if you have taken a look at the new Kokanee Glacier cabin. I have hiked to it many times! It's a beautiful building and may be able to give you some inspiration for designing yoru structures. This remote cabin is situated in the Kokanee Glacier Provincial Park. As it is in a provincial park they had to minimize damage to the natural environment. Hope this helps!

  5. Hey Arvi,
What a view! Road trip this summer? Anyways, I was checking out your schematic and it's looking good. To prevent water runoff from getting into the lake you should subscribe to my blog for green stormwater methods that would also spruce up the resort even more as well. We'll talk collaboration fees another time ;).
